What is Sexting?

Sexting is the sending or receiving of sexual words, pictures, or videos via technology, typically a mobile phone (Britannica). The Facebook website and networking display women in bikinis, women performing belly dancing, Hawaii dancing, promotes BDSM, carnival dancing (almost nude), bodybuilders posing in tight clothing, female wrestling, wardrobe malfunction videos, and national milk day (breast bouncing), selling sex toys, displaying women’s bodies, sexual.  Girls are reporting, “Agitated depression, who are anxious, irritable, sleepless, and plain miserable” (Lustig, p.99).

Technology providing online access is not the only technology Traffickers used. Simple, off-line technology allowed Traffickers to use mini cameras (or spy cameras) to invade individual privacy, “Spy videos of women showering” (PBD Podcast) resulting in over 100,000 videos on various porn sites. Many of these videos are of girls’12 to17 years of age.

Another technology used by Traffickers is juvenile websites. They will use this knowledge to monitor juvenile halls: “Traffickers often used juvenile halls to recruit.” (Krell, p.66). Traffickers know juveniles are vulnerable and easily manipulated, due to high “Risk factors…include a history of child abuse, substance abuse, poverty, involvement in child protective services, involvement in juvenile detention, and prior sexual exploitation…runaway and homeless youth.”  (Idzikowski, p.21)
